Poker Acronyms - UL

UL= "Unlucky"

Usually used at online poker tables - "UL" is short for "unlucky" and is generally typed by a player in response to another player getting out-drawn in a hand, or suffering some kind of "bad beat". Also used when two marginal hands come up against one another and one player "loses the race" e.g. QQ loses to AK.

Note : you rarely actually need to point out to a player that they have been ul - they generally know that already. That said, it shows a sort of respect to your opponent - you are acknowledging that it was luck as much as skill that won you the hand. Passing respect in this way tends to earn you respect in return, and suggests to other plays that you know the odds of particular hands winning.
